The Cancer Monument, Inc, is a 501(c)3 corporation whose mission is to facilitate public cancer education, awareness, research advocacy, prevention, and early detection through projects like The Cancer Monument and others that may lead to a cure or enhance the lives of patients and their families.

The monument itself is to be built on public parkland donated by the City of Allen, TX. The structure will consist of a series of black granite walls inscribed with the names of 60,000 honorees, the "heroes of the war on cancer."

"The honorees can be anyone who has fought cancer, whether they've won or lost their battle or are still fighting their disease," said Michelle Miller, president and founder of The Cancer Monument. "We'll have a sign-up station at the tournament for the public to honor a friend or family member."

The tournament, hosted by Jeff Elliott and Anna De Haro, morning radio personalities from Dallas/Fort Worth radio station Mix102.9 FM, consists of a four-man scramble as well as additional competitions, such as a hole-in-one contest.

"I lost my father to Cancer, and I have a good friend Michelle who battled with it, and she has been such an inspiration to me," said De Haro. "So this is not only something I want to do for the community, it's also very personal."

"I think this is a fantastic opportunity to honor those who battle cancer every day and survive," stated Elliott. "Having just lost my step father to cancer I wanted to help Michelle Miller realize her dream of honoring those heroes who walk with us as we battle together".

Prizes for the tournament include a 2004 Lexus ES330 from Park Place Lexus, one of many corporate sponsors of the event. Other major sponsors include Empowered Consulting, Tenet Healthcare Foundation, KDMX FM and the Hackberry Creek Country Club.

"The Cancer Monument provides a unique method of honoring those who have battled cancer along with educating the public on early detection and prevention. I commend their efforts," said Scott Fawcett, President of Empowered Consulting, about his company's involvement.

Jordan Case, president of Park Place Lexus, echoed the sentiment. "It is a great privilege for Park Place Dealerships to be involved with the Cancer Monument," he stated. "We honor those individuals who have battled cancer and we are proud to support this worthy cause."
