Press Release: December 24, 2003 Teddy Bears and Hockey Players Bring Smiles To Young Cancer Patients The Cancer Monument Inc. and Texas Tornados Hockey teamed up to bring smiles to children who are battling cancer. Several large bags full of teddy bears were delivered to the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Medical Center in Dallas on Thursday, December 18th. Tornados captain Anthony Pellarin joined teammates Ryan Burke, Brad Cooper, Chris Nichols, Matt Krug and Jenny Orndorff, Tornados Community Relations Director and visited children in their hospital beds and oncology unit play centers. "It was a very rewarding experience," said Burke. "It humbled me to see the kids remain so positive with everything they are going through." Michelle Miller, President of The Cancer Monument, can relate to the plight of the children. She has been battling Hodgkin’s Lymphoma since March of 2000. "Being in the hospital during the holidays is very difficult. It’s so important for the kids and their parents to know that we care," said Miller. The Cancer Monument Inc. and the Texas Tornados Hockey Team began a community partnership in September 2003. The Teddy Bears were collected for The Cancer Monument during a game on Nov. 29th at The Dr Pepper Star Center in Frisco. "This was a wonderful experience for everyone," stated Cancer Monument Fundraising Director Sabra King. "I look forward to working with Jenny and Cristy Ecton, the Children's Medical Outreach Coordinator, in making this an annual event. We wouldn't have been able to do this without them."
